Why Camp Kuokoa?
We are a co-ed residential camp for ages 8-16, located in the Pocono Mountains, in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The mission of Camp Kuokoa is to combine that unrivaled fun with an experience that promotes independence and encourages campers to expand their horizons and learn new life skills! Away from the constant presence of phones and electronics that often dominate their lives, campers will learn to effectively communicate, work together to complete team-based activities, solve problems, and be responsible for their own day-to-day decision making. We believe that these skills are vital and will serve our campers well throughout their lives. Campers will participate in activities that are new to them and discover strengths they never knew they had. Additionally, campers will make friends and form bonds that will last a lifetime. Campers take steps towards their independence in sessions designed to challenge them where they are comfortable.
Be it 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks, or 7 weeks campers will have the full camp experience in their time with us! It’s the little things that are taken for granted each day that campers will quickly learn to do for themselves in addition to all the fun activities. Starting from bunk set up to helping with unpacking their belongings & setting up their bunk space to make it their own, to choosing their outfits each day and keeping track of what must be sent out for laundry. Mornings will begin with making beds and kitchen duty (on their selected morning). All campers will pitch in for at mealtime and help with set up, serving and clean up. These simple tasks are the small challenges that they participate in at camp that are fun because they are doing it with friends and give them a sense of pride. Daily, campers improve their communication skills as they are encouraged to express their feelings, opinions, and challenges face to face with their peers as there are no cell phones to hide behind. Each task they conquer is another step in their foundation. A foundation made up of achievements that they will be proud of and proud to share upon their return.
